A Letter to God ||First Flight|| Class 10 English Chapter 1

Summary Of A Letter to God

Lencho, a poor farmer, lives with his family on a small farm located in a valley. He relies on his crops for survival, and his entire harvest depends on timely rain. One year, after a long period of drought, his prayers are answered when it finally starts to rain. However, the joy is short-lived as the rain quickly turns into a destructive hailstorm, destroying his crops entirely.

Devastated, Lencho feels hopeless, but his strong faith in God gives him an idea. He writes a letter to God, asking for 100 pesos to help him survive and replant his crops. Lencho believes that only God can help him in this difficult time.

He takes the letter to the post office and, amused by Lencho’s faith, the postmaster and his colleagues decide to help. They collect 70 pesos and put it in an envelope addressed to Lencho, pretending it’s from God.

When Lencho receives the money, instead of feeling grateful, he becomes angry. He believes that God sent him the full amount, but the postal employees must have stolen 30 pesos. He writes another letter to God, requesting the rest of the money and warning Him not to send it through the post office, as the employees there are "crooks."
